Starting with the (wo)Man in the Mirror

Once upon a time in a place called BYU a young women hated her major. So after a good cry and then a less than good cry she began to reflect on what she really cared about. Late into the night she thought and after another cry she realized that she cares about people. She decided that she would start a one woman crusade to save the world or at least save one world. She decided to start with the man in the mirror, to quote the ever present Michael Jackson. She decided to change her own world. Take a seat for this one, wouldn't want you to faint...this girl is me. Since that day I have worked to understand myself and help myself with something that I have always felt strongly about, self-esteem.
At this point, you are probably wondering why all this background is necessary. You might be thinking, "Yes, Elaine, we know all of this. Now move along to something more interesting." Well, lately I have been feeling like my blog needs to take a different direction... so sit down, shut up, and hold on tight. Through the next few months I will be sharing my own experiences and efforts to come to terms with who I am inside and out and hopefully we can work together to improve our own self-esteem and ideas on beauty.

We live in a world that teaches that your worth is based on how much money you make, the amount of weight you can lose, or how busy you can pack your days. This is completely wrong. I believe worth is inherent. Some people believe that life is a pie and your worth is affected by the worth of others. However I think that life is a pie shop with one pie for every person. You're pie is the same size as every other pie out there and their choices do not change your pie. You and Chris Evans are both a whole pie because your worth is not based on what you accomplish in life. You are worth the world to me!
This week I want you to think about worth. How do you judge your worth? What things change your perception of yourself? If it helps make a list. Consider what the world would be like if we saw an equal amount of worth in each person. Sound off in the comments and let me know what you came up with!
